About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will work directly with the patient care team. This role provides hands-on experience in a clinical setting while you complete your nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the supervision and delegation of a registered nurse.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to your supervising RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as ambulation, nutrition, hygiene, and elimination.
- Document the care you provide.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to manage patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Provide education to patients and their families based on their specific learning needs.
- Advocate for the emotional and physical well-being of patients.
- Maintain professional relationships with patients, their families, and your coworkers.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a nursing program at a college or university.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
