About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you will work as part of a healthcare team to support patient care. This role is a paid opportunity for students currently enrolled in a nursing program. You will gain hands-on experience by working under the supervision of a registered nurse in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Document the care you provide and monitor patient conditions, communicating updates to your supervising RN.
- Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Provide education to patients and families based on their learning needs.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients while maintaining professional relationships with families and staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
