About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you work directly with our patient care teams to support daily operations. This role allows you to gain clinical experience while working under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will play a part in patient advocacy and help maintain the physical and emotional well-being of those we serve.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Document care provided and monitor patient conditions, communicating updates to the supervising nurse.
- Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Evaluate patient and family learning needs to provide education based on age, culture, and condition.
- Build positive professional relationships with patients, families, and the health care team.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional needs of every patient.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
