About the role#
As a Nurse Extern, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse. You will work in a hospital setting, supporting the health care team while building your clinical experience. This is a part-time, PRN position requiring a commitment of approximately four shifts per month, including two weekend shifts.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care tasks and monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions.
- Help patients with daily living activities, including nutrition, personal hygiene, ambulation, and elimination.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with patients, their families, and the health care team.
- Assess the learning needs of patients and families, providing education based on their specific condition, culture, and age.
- Act as an advocate for the emotional and physical well-being of every patient.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program, specifically in your third year or higher.
- Strong critical thinking skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfort working in high-stress environments and the ability to take appropriate action.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, which must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
