About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at North Alabama Medical Center, you work directly with our patient care team. This role allows you to gain hands-on experience while supporting the physical and emotional well-being of patients. You perform care under the supervision of a registered nurse and contribute to the daily operations of our clinical units.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Assist patients with daily activities, including personal hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and elimination.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to the supervising RN.
- Document care provided during your shift.
- Collaborate with health care team members to coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and referrals.
- Evaluate the learning needs of patients and families to provide appropriate education.
- Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Advocate for the well-being of every patient.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program at a university or college.
- BLS certification, or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of your start date.
