About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship within the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems line of business. You will work alongside the Operational Excellence and Industrial Engineering team to gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. The internship lasts 12 to 14 weeks and follows a 9/80 work schedule.
What you'll do#
- Spend 70% of your time on the production floor performing time studies and observing operations, with the remaining 30% dedicated to data analysis.
- Gather, review, and validate data from multiple sources to generate reports, statistics, and presentations.
- Use AutoCAD to validate facility layouts.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to support process improvements, including waste reduction and value stream mapping.
- Create current state process flows based on your observations.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and conduct 6S audits.
- Assist engineers with various assignments and manage your time to complete tasks.
- Interact with team members across different levels and backgrounds.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior in a 4-year Industrial Engineering degree program, or enrollment in a 2-year Master's program in the same field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build a professional network.
- A diligent, hardworking approach and a willingness to learn quickly.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain an active DOD security clearance.
