About the role#
The Defense Technologies Engineering Division is hiring undergraduate students and recent graduates for a summer internship. You will gain practical experience by supporting engineering projects that involve research, conceptual design, diagnostics, and manufacturing principles. This role requires full-time, on-site work for 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Work directly with a mentor in your field of study.
- Perform technical assignments with a basic degree of complexity.
- Provide technical support to engineers and scientific staff on research and development projects.
- Participate in research under close supervision.
- Use standard software packages to complete common tasks.
- Gather and analyze data to support engineering research.
- Document and communicate technical results.
- Share information and participate in open dialogue.
- Attend seminars, facility tours, and interact with other students.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment at an accredited institution pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, design/drafting, or a related field.
- A sustained record of outstanding academic performance with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks.
- Technical project experience and familiarity with tools associated with your field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the NDAA.

- Location: Livermore, California.
- Work modality: Full-time on-site.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $23.26 to $31.62 per hour, based on a step structure determined by your most recent completed academic year.
