About the role#
As a Photonics Engineer Intern, you will work with experienced engineers on the development, integration, and testing of precision optical systems and photonic devices. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Carlsbad, California.
What you'll do#
- Support the integration, testing, and troubleshooting of photonic hardware.
- Build or improve scripts and tools for test automation, data collection, and analysis.
- Assist with laboratory setup, measurement, and the documentation of technical results.
- Work alongside hardware, software, and photonics engineers to integrate and validate mature designs.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience in programming, digital systems, electronics, or computer architecture through coursework, research, design teams, makerspaces, or previous internships.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C, or C++.
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, embedded systems, data acquisition, PCB-level design, FPGAs, or hardware-software integration.
- An interest in photonics, sensors, or precision hardware.

- Location: Carlsbad, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 9/80 schedule (80 hours over 9 days, with every other Friday off).
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $29.00 to $53.50 per hour.
