About the role#
We are hiring students for a 12-month co-op position starting in January 2027 and ending in December 2027. You will work on-site in Toronto, contributing to the generation and polishing of precision optical components. This role involves working with 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines, as well as Diamond Turning lathes and alignment stations.
What you'll do#
- Set up CNC programs and CAN cycles using G-code.
- Grind, edge, and polish optical components using precision CNC and Diamond Turned CNC equipment.
- Inspect and measure components to ensure they meet specified tolerances and surface form requirements like PV, RMS, and AST.
- Perform maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on production equipment.
- Support the development of new manufacturing processes and suggest improvements to existing ones.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Photonics or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma program.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed technical drawings.
- A solid understanding of physics and chemistry principles.
- Experience or ability to safely handle delicate optical parts.
- Skill in operating Precision Optics and Diamond Turned CNC equipment.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.

- Compensation: $23 to $24 per hour.
