About the role#
As a Photonics Engineering Intern, you will help turn theory into measured performance. You will contribute to laboratory experiments and technical analysis focused on optical communications, fiber-optic systems, acousto-optics, RF photonics, or quantum technologies.
What you'll do#
- Set up, execute, and document laboratory experiments on photonic components and systems.
- Collect and analyze measurement data to identify trends and recommend follow-on work.
- Support test setup, instrumentation, alignment, and troubleshooting.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate and validate photonic designs at the subsystem and system levels under the guidance of experienced engineers.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Experience with fiber optics, optical communications, RF systems, acousto-optics, quantum science, or precision measurement.
- Proficiency with optical, electronic, or RF laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience with data analysis and automation using Python, MATLAB, or comparable tools.
- Foundational knowledge of optics, electromagnetics, communications, electronics, or physics.
- Practical experience through coursework, research, internships, design teams, or laboratory projects involving experimental measurement and technical problem solving.
Location & details#
- Location: Palm Bay, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 9/80 schedule (80 hours over 9 days, with every other Friday off).
- Employment: Full-time paid internship.
