About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Pharmacy Intern position based in Byram, Mississippi. You will work on-site in a retail pharmacy setting, gaining practical experience while supporting the daily operations of the pharmacy department.
What you'll do#
- Accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions for new fills or refills.
- Input patient and prescription data accurately into the pharmacy computer system.
- Dispense correct medications and bag them for customer pickup.
- Provide drug counseling and recommend over-the-counter medications to customers.
- Contact prescribers for authorization and communicate with insurance companies as needed.
- Process third-party insurance information and facilitate charge purchases.
- Administer immunizations under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking, stocking, and returning unused medication bottles.
- Keep the department clean and organized.
- Support customers, including minors, older adults, and individuals with special needs.
- Report any safety risks, accidents, or prescription incidents to management.
- Promote a welcoming environment and build trust with associates and customers.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a United States school of pharmacy.
- A current state-issued Pharmacy Intern license.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a busy environment.
- Skills to manage conflict in a nonconfrontational and professional manner.
- Commitment to honesty and integrity when handling customer or business information.
- Ability to follow directions and ask for help when necessary.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
