About the role#
KPMG is seeking a PhD-level intern to join the Federal Technology Enablement practice. This role focuses on applying advanced data science and engineering techniques to solve complex problems for federal clients. You will work on research and development projects involving AI and data architecture.
What you'll do#
- Research and build AI-powered capabilities, including anomaly detection models and agentic AI architectures.
- Identify systemic patterns and break down complex queries into manageable sub-tasks.
- Create reproducible data pipelines to prepare and enrich data.
- Design large-scale multi-relational knowledge graphs to engineer and evaluate complex features.
- Implement post-hoc explainability methods that provide clear rationales for AI model outputs.
- Manage project risks and document all research assumptions.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and policy staff to translate research into recommendations.
- Present mathematical formulations, algorithmic trade-offs, and findings through reports and visualizations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a PhD program for Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Eligibility for or possession of a U.S. Government Security clearance.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and relevant machine learning libraries.
- Experience with agentic AI frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Dash, Plotly, or Shiny.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning fundamentals.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
- Preferred: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Preferred: Foundation in advanced graph or time series techniques.

- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: This position involves a mix of on-site, hybrid, and remote work depending on business needs. You must reside within a commutable distance of the office.
- Employment: This is a paid, full-time internship.
