About the role#
KPMG is seeking a PhD-level intern to join our Federal Technology Enablement practice. This role focuses on applying advanced research to solve complex problems for federal clients. You will work on AI-powered capabilities, knowledge graphs, and data-driven solutions to support program integrity.
What you'll do#
- Research and build AI-powered capabilities, including anomaly detection models and agentic AI architectures.
- Create reproducible data pipelines for data enrichment.
- Design large-scale multi-relational knowledge graphs to engineer complex features.
- Develop post-hoc explainability methods to provide rationales for AI model outputs.
- Iterate on experimental designs and document assumptions or project risks.
- Collaborate with diverse teams to translate research into actionable recommendations.
- Explain mathematical formulations and algorithmic trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program for Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Eligibility for or possession of a U.S. Government Security clearance.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship.
- Strong skills in SQL, Python, and relevant open-source machine learning libraries.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning fundamentals.
- Exposure to agentic AI frameworks and familiarity with data visualization tools.
- Preferred experience includes advanced graph or time series techniques, cloud platforms, and containerization technologies.
- Strong critical thinking and business acumen.

- Location: Albany, New York.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Work Modality: This position involves on-site, remote, and hybrid work depending on business needs. You must reside within a commutable distance of the office.
