About the role#
Kodiak is looking for a Motion Planning Intern to join our team for the Winter 2027 term. You will work directly on the software that controls our autonomous trucks. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to real-world robotics projects while receiving mentorship from our engineering team.
What you'll do#
- Develop core decision-making and motion planning algorithms.
- Improve strategies for navigating complex highway merges, lane changes, and industrial operations.
- Design and implement solutions to complex robotics problems.
- Deploy code on autonomous trucks that operate in real-world environments.
- Use industry-standard tools and methodologies to advance our autonomous trucking platform.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university program in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics.
- Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
- Solid understanding of motion planning, decision-making, and trajectory optimization.
- Ability to solve basic optimization and computational geometry problems.
- Proficiency in kinematics, linear algebra, and calculus.

- Location: Mountain View, California.
- Modality: This is an on-site position.
- Term: Winter 2027 (12-16 weeks starting January 2027).
- Status: This is a full-time, paid internship.
