About the role#
Kiewit Power Engineering is hiring an Electrical Engineering student for a full-time summer internship in Westlake, Texas. You will join a team of design professionals working on substation, transmission, and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This role focuses on applying engineering principles to support detailed design and EPC projects.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents, drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Assist with engineering calculations, including relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit studies.
- Perform ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing using engineering software.
- Review project schedules and coordinate activities with project engineers and customers.
- Use the document management system and follow corporate engineering practices.
- Identify potential project issues and suggest solutions.
- Maintain high standards for the quality and accuracy of your work.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A power background and a GPA above 3.0 are preferred.
- Basic knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and per-unit mathematics.
- Familiarity with substation components, design documents, and industry standards like NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work safely in a team environment, communicate professionally, and meet deadlines.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
