About the role#
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. This full-time position focuses on supporting design engineering tasks for nuclear projects. You will work on technical documentation, equipment procurement support, and system design layouts while collaborating with our engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Design piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for mechanical systems.
- Prepare design calculations and specifications for major power plant equipment.
- Create mechanical engineering layouts, sketches, and conceptual designs.
- Evaluate vendor bids for technical compliance to assist with equipment procurement.
- Coordinate with project team members to review design progress.
- Perform field walkdowns as needed.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, or Bentley AutoPipe software is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- You must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access.
- Ability to pass a security questionnaire and background check.

- This internship is based on-site in either Oak Ridge, Tennessee, or Lenexa, Kansas.
- The position is for the Summer 2027 term.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
