About the role#
The Continuous Improvement Intern joins the Operations Department at our East Hartford, Connecticut site. This is a full-time, paid summer internship running from May 30, 2027, to July 30, 2027. You will work on-site to support manufacturing efficiency and lean culture development.
What you'll do#
- Observe manufacturing processes to identify waste, process variation, safety risks, and operational inefficiencies.
- Seek ways to improve quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement.
- Apply Lean tools and Toyota Production System principles, such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, Root Cause Analysis, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Design and implement improved process flows.
- Facilitate Kaizen activities using the Quick Kaizen philosophy to encourage practical, employee-driven improvements.
- Collaborate with operators, technicians, and supervisors to develop solutions.
- Support the development of a Lean culture through Daily Management concepts.
- Learn the principles of the standard work matrix, including 5S, TAKT, and SOP application.
- Participate in early career development programming, including workshops and networking opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university, specifically as a rising or current junior or senior.
- Degree pursuit in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
- At least one year of experience using Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Previous experience in a team-oriented setting, such as work, extracurriculars, or military service.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Previous Sherwin-Williams internship or co-op experience is preferred.
