About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Mother/Baby unit, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide care, prevent injury, and support patient health. You will assist the interdisciplinary team in delivering holistic care to patients and their families. This role is designed for nursing students to gain clinical experience while supporting our healthcare staff.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to formulate care plans.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures under RN supervision.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Collect and record vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output data.
- Manage specimen collection, labeling, and delivery.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to licensed staff immediately.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with body transport.
- Support emergency care, including crash cart checks, CPR, and Code Blue responses.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited RN program. You must have completed your 3rd semester for an ASN program or 4th semester for a BSN program.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your school of nursing OR current Kaweah Health employment while enrolled in a Kaweah Health/Unitek nursing program.
- A validated Skills Checklist available at all times while working.
- Ability to submit updated transcripts to HR each term and notify management of any changes to your enrollment status.
- Preferred: Current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
