About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Cardiovascular ICU, you will work under the direction of a registered nurse to promote health and provide patient care. You will assist the interdisciplinary team in delivering care and advocating for patients and their families. This role requires you to maintain a validated skills checklist and perform duties only after your skills have been verified by your school and a Kaweah Health RN preceptor.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and health care providers to formulate plans of care.
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures under RN supervision.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
- Report changes in patient condition or family concerns to licensed staff.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Collect and record vital signs, intake and output, weight, and height.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Participate in emergency care, including crash cart checks, CPR, and Code Blue responses.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with transporting the body.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or 4th semester for BSN students.
- Valid BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved work study program affiliated with your school of nursing or current Kaweah Health employment while enrolled in a Kaweah Health/Unitek nursing program.
- A current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Ability to submit updated transcripts to HR each term.
