About the role#
As a Student Nurse Aide in the Medical/Surgical department, you will provide care for patients and their families under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You must maintain your student skills competency checklist at all times. You may only perform skills validated by your school of nursing and your Kaweah Health preceptor. Please note that you are not permitted to perform IV initiation, medication administration, glucose monitoring, or other point of care testing.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated tasks and patient care.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes and greet patients and families.
- Help with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge, as well as room orientation.
- Provide for patient toilet needs and report variations in output to the nursing staff.
- Collect and record vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output data.
- Assist patients with meals, snacks, and water.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Assist with emergency care, including CPR and Code Blue responses.
- Report patient concerns, condition changes, or complaints to licensed staff.
- Provide post-mortem care when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited RN program with at least one semester completed.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program or current Kaweah Health employment while enrolled in a Kaweah Health/Unitek nursing program.
- BLS certification.
- Current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
