About the role#
This internship is based in Santa Clara, California, and focuses on mechanical engineering design, development, and integration for medical robotics. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams including electrical, mechatronics, controls, software, and clinical engineers. This role supports the prototyping, development, testing, and production of surgical robotic platforms.
What you'll do#
- Design and prototype mechanical assemblies and systems using CAD.
- Generate and present design concepts while participating in design reviews.
- Use manufacturing methods such as 3D printing, machining, hand tools, and bonding to build prototypes.
- Support hardware or instrument integration, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Document designs, test procedures, and root cause analysis processes.
- Participate in clinical assessments of robotic devices using inanimate anatomical models.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited bachelor’s, graduate, or PhD program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Biomedical, or a related engineering field.
- Intent to return to an academic program after the internship concludes.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Experience with mechanical design, including CAD modeling, assembly, or testing.
- Ability to analyze problems and derive solutions.
- Self-starter mindset with a history of self-directed learning.
- Permanent US work authorization without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
