About the role#
We are seeking Engineering Co-op students to join our Manufacturing Engineering team in Milpitas, California. This role supports the development, optimization, and sustainment of advanced ophthalmic medical device manufacturing. You will gain hands-on experience in a regulated, high-tech environment while working on process improvements, equipment development, automation, and quality initiatives. Depending on business needs, you may support projects within Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering functions.
What you'll do#
- Support manufacturing process development, validation, and optimization activities.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and process improvement opportunities.
- Participate in investigations regarding yield, quality, and equipment performance.
- Assist with equipment qualification and continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and update manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects to reduce waste.
- Design and improve mechanical parts, tooling, fixtures, and assembly equipment.
- Create and modify CAD models, engineering drawings, and design documentation.
- Troubleshoot PCBA electronics, control systems, and manufacturing test equipment.
- Assist with electrical design, hardware modifications, and data acquisition systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, and Operations.
- Present technical findings and project updates to engineering leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Must be returning to school following the co-op assignment.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
- Ability to work full-time during the assignment.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, Altium, or OrCAD.
- Experience with data analysis tools like Excel, Minitab, JMP, Python, or MATLAB.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
