About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and integration of medical robotics. Based in Santa Clara, California, you will work alongside multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, mechatronics, controls, and clinical engineers. You will gain hands-on experience with hardware development for surgical platforms intended to improve patient outcomes.
What you'll do#
- Develop and prototype PCAs for robotic elements, subsystems, and testing fixtures.
- Produce technical documentation including design reviews, engineering studies, test results, and architecture documents.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to create reliable designs for robotic tasks.
- Test, debug, and perform root cause analysis during bench testing and system integration.
- Generate and present design concepts to your team.
- Participate in clinical assessments of robotic devices using inanimate anatomical models.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or graduate program for Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Must be returning to an academic program following the internship.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Permanent US work authorization. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
- Fundamental knowledge of circuit design theory and electrical engineering principles.
- Experience with oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, and multimeters.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week).
- Self-directed learning skills and the ability to solve problems independently.
- Preferred experience includes PCB design software (Altium, Eagle, or KiCad), Python or Matlab scripting, firmware design, and prior internship or Co-op experience.
