About the role#
Jensen Hughes is hiring interns for our Fire Protection Engineering department. You will join a team focused on life safety, fire protection, and security for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. This is a full-time, paid internship based in San Diego, California.
What you'll do#
- Develop, modify, and review drawings of systems or components.
- Create plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure accuracy.
- Assist with technical design problem resolution, including field investigations and design computations.
- Coordinate specific design aspects into larger projects.
- Identify and reference applicable codes and standards.
- Conduct building code, egress, fire detection, alarm, smoke control, and sprinkler system reviews.
- Perform basic calculations for means of egress, building area, water supplies, and smoke control equipment.
- Communicate project updates to team members and clients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program or higher in engineering at an accredited university.
- Knowledge of engineering principles or construction technology and practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and governmental regulations.
- Intermediate written and oral communication skills for reports, correspondence, and presentations.
- Proficiency with personal computer tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
- Capability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
