About the role#
Jensen Hughes is hiring interns for the Fire Protection Engineering department. This role supports professional consulting services for life safety, fire protection, security, and mass notification systems. You will work on commercial, industrial, and institutional projects as part of a team.
What you'll do#
- Develop, modify, and review drawings for systems or components.
- Create plans, specifications, and inspection reports.
- Assist in solving design problems, including field investigations and inspections.
- Perform detailed design work and check design computations.
- Coordinate specific design aspects within a project.
- Identify and apply relevant codes and standards.
- Conduct building code, egress, fire alarm, smoke control, and sprinkler system reviews.
- Calculate requirements for means of egress, building areas, and water supplies.
- Communicate with project team members and clients.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of engineering principles or construction practices.
- Ability to interpret technical procedures, journals, and governmental regulations.
- Intermediate skills in written and oral communication.
- Capability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Intermediate computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- A self-starter mindset with strong reasoning skills.
