The Refugee TANF Coordination Program (RTCP) provides holistic services to humanitarian immigrant parents receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. The program aims to help households maintain benefit compliance, reduce barriers to self-sufficiency, and assist employment-ready individuals in securing full-time work. This internship offers experience in U.S. resettlement agency operations, client assessment, and professional communication within a global humanitarian context.
What you'll do#
- Assess new clients to create individual employment plans and pre-employment budgets.
- Conduct skill-building or information sessions on topics such as job readiness, interviews, digital literacy, and credential evaluation.
- Assist clients with public benefit applications, follow-ups, and referrals to service providers.
- Develop individualized resumes and cover letters while assisting clients with job leads and applications.
- Perform strategic research and outreach to potential employer partners.
- Track service provision through electronic data entry and maintain client documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or an individual who has graduated within the last 12 months.
- Strong digital literacy skills and the ability to learn new software.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Spanish, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, Tigrinya, or Amharic is a plus.
- Relevant academic backgrounds include Business Administration, Psychology, Communications, Human Resources, or International Relations.
Location & details#
- Location: Silver Spring, Maryland, USA.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
- Commitment: Minimum 24 hours per week, with a preference for 32-40 hours. Candidates must be available for three full working days per week.
- Modality: This is an on-site position.
- Compensation: This internship is unpaid. Interns may be eligible for a per diem reimbursement of $15/day for food and travel costs.
