About the role#
The Communications Intern supports the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and INDYCAR communications teams. This role involves public relations and media tasks, including assisting with announcements, engaging with global media professionals, and collaborating with motorsport sanctioning bodies. You will play a key part in supporting media relations during major race weekends and various communications projects throughout the year.
What you'll do#
- Write press releases, media advisories, and feature stories for media outlets, IMS.com, and INDYCAR.com.
- Assist with statistics and updates for the Indy 500 Media Guide.
- Support daily operations within the media center.
- Collect and report media clips on a regular basis.
- Help execute media events and announcements.
- Develop deep knowledge of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NTT INDYCAR SERIES brands, including the athletes.
- Aid with media retention and relationships through engagement and events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in public relations, communications, or a related field, with an expected graduation date no earlier than May 2026.
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
- A creative, results-oriented mindset and the ability to work as a self-starter.
- High integrity, confidentiality, and a professional, courteous demeanor.
- Ability to maintain high energy throughout the workday and work well within a close team environment.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and national media.
- Cultural competence and the ability to thrive in a diverse environment.

Location & details#
- This is a paid, on-site internship based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- The term runs from January 2027 through September 2027.
- Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Extended hours are required during race weekends and key event periods, including the month of May and Memorial Day.
