About the role#
IMEG is hiring a Planning Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Hartford, CT. This 10-12 week program offers hands-on experience within our public-sector transportation and planning team. You will support senior planners on projects related to transportation, community planning, and environmental initiatives. This is a full-time, paid, hybrid position.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on planning issues, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and environmental impacts.
- Prepare maps, reports, and planning documents using GIS software and other technical tools.
- Participate in public meetings and workshops to gather community input.
- Assist in the review of zoning applications and community plans to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Conduct site visits to collect data and assess compliance with planning regulations.
- Collaborate with public officials, developers, and community members to support active projects.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings to project stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Planning, Environment Studies, Architecture, or Arts.
- Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite, and SketchUp.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A strong interest in design consulting.
- Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written formats to individuals and groups.
