About the role#
IMEG is hiring a Lighting Design Intern for a 10 to 12 week program during the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Chicago, Illinois. You will work alongside experienced designers on architectural lighting projects across sectors such as hospitality, mixed-use, and education. You will receive mentorship throughout the program as you gain hands-on experience with real project work.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of lighting systems in accordance with code and company standards.
- Research equipment and support luminaire selections, lighting layouts, and illuminance targets.
- Create client presentations and document design selections using Revit or AutoCAD.
- Coordinate activities with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and technology teams.
- Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while tracking project progress.
- Review project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct periodic job site observations and provide services required by contract agreements.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Architectural Engineering, Theatrical Lighting Design, Interior Design, or an equivalent field.
- A strong interest in architectural lighting design consulting.
- Previous exposure to CAD or BIM software.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
