About the role#
Join the AI Foundations Research team at IBM. You will contribute to the development of artificial intelligence by working on end-to-end research projects. Our group focuses on multi-modal systems, data quality, model architectures, and training recipes. You will work in a collaborative environment that bridges fundamental science and engineering.
What you'll do#
- Engage in the full research lifecycle to create new advancements in artificial intelligence.
- Identify core challenges and design novel prototype solutions.
- Validate your ideas through rigorous experimentation.
- Conduct research in areas like training algorithms, efficient fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, and inference-time scaling for multi-modal models.
- Collaborate in small, mentored teams to move projects from ideation to completion.
- Disseminate results through patent applications and publications in conferences.
- Contribute to open innovation initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Hands-on experience and a deep theoretical understanding of Large Language Models, Vision-Language Models, and Transformer architectures.
- Proficiency in Python for rapid prototyping and implementing large-scale machine learning systems.
- Advanced expertise in PyTorch and full-cycle development of algorithms.
- Strength in quantitative analysis, experimental design, and deconstructing complex research problems.
- A track record of innovation shown through strong preprints or peer-reviewed publications.
- A strong publication record in top-tier conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, or AAAI.
- Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts in writing and presentations.
- Experience building high-impact technical demonstrations.
- A commitment to rigorous, reproducible, and well-documented research practices.
- Enrollment in a degree program such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Engineering.
