About the role#
IBM is hiring Hardware Developer Interns to contribute to the development, testing, and support of hardware, firmware, and semiconductors. You will work on infrastructure products including IBM zSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems. This role involves participating in the full development lifecycle, from initial design to customer support.
What you'll do#
- Perform logic (RTL) design and verification.
- Conduct physical design, analog/IO design, and electronic design automation.
- Execute signal and power integrity analysis.
- Manage microelectronics packaging and materials characterization.
- Handle mechanical design, modeling, and technology integration.
- Work on circuit design, electrical design, and printed circuit board layout.
- Perform thermal design, testing, and voltage regulation.
- Conduct performance modeling, processor validation, and system characterization.
- Provide customer and field engineering support.
- Support firmware architecture, development, and test failure analysis.
- Manage product quality, assurance, and analytics.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior project or internship experience in computer hardware or testing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Growth-minded, team-focused, and resourceful approach to engineering.
- Preferred: At least three months of experience designing or manufacturing hardware products.
- Preferred: Knowledge of computer hardware and architecture such as FPGAs, RISC-V, ARM, or MIPS.
- Preferred: Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, C#, Python, or Java.
- Preferred: Experience with hardware description languages like VHDL or Verilog and circuit simulation tools like SPICE.
