About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker position located on the 9th floor. This is a temporary, part-time role with rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses to provide support within the medicine and surgical programs.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support to patients.
- Manage basic care needs, such as bathing, toileting, and feeding, for up to 10 patients.
- Document activities of daily living, including intake and output.
- Communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to your direct supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively with inter-professional healthcare team members.
- Demonstrated understanding of technology use.
- Good work attendance.
- Ability to provide basic assistive care under supervision.
- Completion of mandatory training modules including privacy, WHMIS, fire safety, and hand hygiene.
