About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern on the 9th floor provides direct personal support to patients in a medicine and surgical program setting. This temporary part-time position involves working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. You will assist with basic care needs for up to 10 patients while gaining clinical experience in a hospital environment.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and basic care, including bathing, toileting, and feeding.
- Document activities of daily living, such as intake and output.
- Communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to your direct supervisor.
- Work within department policies without performing regulated acts like medication administration or patient assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively with inter-professional healthcare team members.
- Demonstrated understanding of technology use.
- Good work attendance and the ability to work well with others.
- Completion of mandatory training modules including privacy, WHMIS, fire safety, and hand hygiene.
Location & details#
- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Wilson Site).
- Schedule: Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends (8 or 12-hour shifts).
- Term: Temporary part-time position ending March 31, 2027.
- Compensation: Paid position.
