About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to patients within the Alternative Level of Care facility. This is a temporary part-time position involving rotating 8 or 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct personal support and basic assistive care to up to 10 patients, including assistance with bathing, toileting, and feeding.
- Document activities of daily living, such as intake and output, and communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team.
- Support therapeutic programming on inpatient units under the guidance of a recreation therapist.
- Assist with meal delivery, laundry services, and patient visitor support.
- Report any clinical concerns immediately to supervisors.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentoring from Registered Nurses or Registered Practical Nurses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Ability to use technology effectively and maintain mandatory training compliance.
