About the role#
As an Accounting Intern at Howden, you will join the Corporate Accounting team to gain hands-on experience in a professional insurance environment. You will work alongside accounting professionals to support the finance function, contributing to daily tasks and learning how these activities support a growing business.
What you'll do#
- Support the preparation of routine journal entries.
- Assist with month-end activities, including reconciling balance sheet accounts.
- Track accruals and prepaid expenses.
- Review and code vendor invoices and support payment activities.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate unmatched items.
- Organize and maintain accounting records and documentation.
- Document accounting processes and suggest efficiency improvements.
- Gather information to support audit activities.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- Understanding of core accounting principles, such as accrual accounting, debits, and credits.
- Ability to organize tasks, prioritize work, and maintain high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Comfort working collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to follow established processes and procedures.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
