About the role#
This role involves performing a wide variety of technical and clinical duties for the hospital unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you will assist in maintaining confidential reports, managing data, and preparing medication for patient care. This is a paid, full-time internship opportunity.
What you'll do#
- Use clinical skills to assess medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Procure and distribute medication orders per physician or pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Fill routine patient orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.
- Prepare, compound, and label IV admixtures, including antibiotics, cardiac drips, solutions, irrigations, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies.
- Restock medications and IV dispensing areas while prepackaging bulk medications into unit dose packages.
- Contribute to department operations through computer functions, processing cart fill lists, and generating labels.
- Participate in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a School of Pharmacy or status as a foreign pharmacy graduate.
- Ability to apply for a Pharmacy Intern license within the state of PA within 120 days of hire.
- Ability to maintain competence for the position and perform all technician duties to assist in training new employees and students.
- Commitment to participating in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance.
