Pharmacy Intern

About the role#

As a Pharmacy Intern, you will perform a wide variety of technical and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. This role supports the hospital-wide unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program, ensuring accurate medication preparation and distribution.

What you'll do#

• Assess medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness using clinical skills.
• Procure and distribute medication orders per physician or pharmacist request according to established protocols.
• Prepare, compound, and label IV admixtures, including antibiotics, cardiac drips, solutions, irrigations, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
• Manage pharmacy inventory by ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Restock medications and IV dispensing areas, and prepackage bulk medications into unit dose packages.
• Assist with department operations, including computer data entry, generating labels, processing cart fill lists, and maintaining an orderly work environment.
• Participate in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Assist in training new employees and students by performing technician duties.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a School of Pharmacy or status as a foreign pharmacy graduate.
• Must apply for a Pharmacy Intern license within the state of Pennsylvania within 120 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain competence in all technician-level duties.
• Commitment to quality improvement and maintaining a safe work environment.
