About the role#
The American Heart Association offers an internship program for students interested in non-profit health work. You will gain hands-on experience in community engagement, program planning, and health education. This role supports initiatives focused on nutrition security, hypertension control, tobacco cessation, and community CPR readiness. You will work with the Community Impact team to help improve health outcomes in local communities.
What you'll do#
- Organize and implement community-based health initiatives and programs.
- Support program planning, tracking, and evaluation.
- Assist in the coordination of workshops, meetings, health fairs, and community events.
- Engage with community organizations and healthcare partners.
- Identify and develop impact stories for online and offline audiences.
- Maintain volunteer databases and act as a point of contact for volunteer engagement.
- Create volunteer communications such as newsletters and activity updates.
- Review and develop resources that address specific community health needs.
- Attend internal and external meetings as required.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a senior or graduate student in public health, community health, advocacy, or a related field.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of Canva.
- Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and maintain attention to detail.
- Reliable Wi-Fi and transportation.
- Willingness to travel to local community events and meetings.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Arlington, Virginia (Hybrid).
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 25, 2027 to May 7, 2027).
- Availability: Minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship at $23.00 per hour.
- Requirements: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
