About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience within a non-profit health organization. You will support strategies to improve community health outcomes, focusing on nutrition security, health education, and resource development. The position runs from September 8, 2026, to December 11, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Organize and implement culturally appropriate health initiatives.
- Support community impact priorities like hypertension control and tobacco prevention.
- Assist with internal program evaluations and track local impact.
- Identify and develop impact stories for public sharing.
- Manage volunteer databases and respond to inquiries.
- Create resources such as playbooks to address community health needs.
- Research potential collaborations with local organizations.
- Plan and attend trainings, meetings, health fairs, and community events.
- Lead community engagement activities, including hands-only CPR demonstrations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a senior or graduate student in public health, community health, advocacy, or a related field.
- Ability to research health topics and turn findings into practical guidance.
- Experience with community engagement or health initiatives.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint, plus basic knowledge of Canva.
- Strong attention to detail and a quick learning style.
- Willingness to travel to local events and meetings.
- Reliable transportation and a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- Minimum availability of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred. Knowledge of local healthcare systems is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid role based in Madison, Wisconsin, or Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- The position is paid at $23.00 per hour.
