WGAL News Intern - 2026 Fall

About the role#

WGAL offers paid, on-site internships for the Fall 2026 term within the News department. Interns spend 10-12 weeks shadowing professionals and gaining hands-on experience across various units, including the Assignment Desk, TV News Production, Digital News, Sports, and Weather. This program is designed for students pursuing degrees in Journalism or Communications.

What you'll do#

• Assist team members in gathering news and information, including researching and handling communications with sources.
• Help research and write content for digital platforms, including the website, mobile app, and social media channels.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Write scripts for daily sportscasts and research team or player statistics.
• Analyze weather charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, and produce weather graphics.
• Assist with field work, news gathering, and in-studio production tasks.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a relevant academic program, such as Journalism or Communications. Candidates for the Weather department must be enrolled in a meteorology curriculum.
• Strong areas of interest in specific departments, such as News Producing, Reporting, Photography, Sports, or Meteorology.
• For sports roles, a working knowledge of local and national sports scenes and the ability to discuss current sports topics.
• Availability to commit to approximately 16 hours per week, based on academic requirements and mutual scheduling.
