About the role#
Kentucky Educational Television offers the O. Leonard Press Public Affairs Internship for students interested in public media, journalism, communications, and political science. This paid position provides hands-on experience in the creation and promotion of public affairs programs. You will work directly with professionals on content such as Comment on Kentucky, Kentucky Tonight, Kentucky Edition, and News Quiz.
What you'll do#
- Assist with camera operation and audio tasks in both studio and field settings.
- Help edit footage and create graphics for various programs.
- Support on-air promotion production and operate the teleprompter.
- Log and transcribe video and interviews.
- Research content and legislation.
- Schedule and provide hospitality for program guests.
- Provide production support in Frankfort and Lexington as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Communications, Journalism, or Political Science.
- Completion of at least 24 academic credit hours with good academic standing.
- Strong computer, writing, and communication skills.
- Coursework or interest in public media, civics, or politics.
- Ability to commit to 120 hours during the semester, including evening availability.
- Physical ability to handle objects up to 50 lbs and work while sitting, standing, or walking for long periods.

- This internship is based on-site in Louisville, Kentucky.
- The term is for the Winter 2027 semester.
- The role is paid and includes an hourly wage plus potential performance-based stipends.
- Job-related travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
