About the role#
The Minnesota Star Tribune is hiring a Social Media Producer Intern for Summer 2027. This is a 10-week, full-time, paid internship based in our Minneapolis newsroom. You will work with the Audience Team to turn our journalism into platform-native content. We are looking for students who can manage the full lifecycle of a social video, from initial story selection to final production. This role involves both behind-the-scenes editing and on-camera hosting.
What you'll do#
- Identify which stories are best suited for social treatment and determine the right approach for specific platforms.
- Film, edit, and produce short-form vertical video content.
- Serve as an on-camera host for social segments when appropriate.
- Translate Star Tribune journalism into content designed for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Collaborate with digital and social media team members to maximize the reach of our news coverage.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college junior, senior, or graduate student with a background in Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Experience shooting, producing, and editing short-form vertical video, including a strong grasp of pacing, framing, audio, and captions.
- Proven ability to appear on camera with confidence.
- Solid news judgment and experience verifying online content.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities on a deadline.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and analytics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A track record of collaboration and creative instincts.
Location & details#
- Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Work Modality: On-site and hybrid arrangements.
- Compensation: $21.25 per hour ($850 per week).
- Eligibility: You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
