About the role#
The Minnesota Star Tribune offers a 10-week summer internship for students interested in photo and video journalism. This full-time, paid position is based in our Minneapolis newsroom. You will work on a variety of assignments, ranging from breaking news and sports to business and feature stories. We look for interns who can balance daily reporting with creative, long-term enterprise projects.
What you'll do#
- Develop your own story ideas and handle assigned tasks.
- Cover breaking news, sports, business, and feature events.
- Produce both still photography and video storytelling content.
- Create innovative content for our newspaper, website, and mobile platforms.
- Use social media for newsgathering and distribution.
- Maintain professional conduct at all times.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college junior, senior, or graduate student.
- A strong, developing visual sense for still photography.
- Experience shooting video with a DSLR and managing lighting.
- A dedicated video camera and a professional-grade DSLR camera body with lenses.
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and audio editing software.
- Understanding of audio production and video encoding techniques.
- Familiarity with HTML.
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

- Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027 (early June to early August).
- Status: Full-time, paid at $21.25 per hour.
