About the role#
The Minnesota Star Tribune is seeking a User Experience (UX) Intern for a 10-week summer program in Minneapolis. This full-time role runs from June to August 2027. You will work with the Product and Technology team to design user-centered products for local news audiences. This internship provides hands-on experience in news product design and allows you to build a professional portfolio.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers on company-wide initiatives.
- Participate in the full design process, including research, strategy, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.
- Plan, conduct, and synthesize user research to identify product improvements.
- Maintain design documentation, annotations, and supporting materials.
- Support the evolution of the design system to ensure consistency across digital products.
- Take part in design reviews, audits, and usability evaluations.
- Present design concepts and recommendations to stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student, or status as a recent college graduate.
- Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma.
- Understanding of design thinking principles and the ability to iterate based on feedback.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to learn new tools and concepts quickly.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
