About the role#
The TD Assistant Curatorial Fellowship is a term position based at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. You will report to the Manager of Exhibitions to support the development and delivery of contemporary and Canadian art exhibitions. The role focuses on artists who have been historically underrepresented in the museum sector. You will conduct original research, support the acquisition process, and help nurture relationships between artists, community groups, and the public.
What you'll do#
- Support behind-the-scenes logistics and the public presentation of exhibitions.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and designing exhibition spaces.
- Liaise with artists, lenders, and institutional partners.
- Promote cultural sensitivity and encourage new ways of working and exhibiting.
- Provide research support for acquisitions and prepare materials for the Curatorial Committee.
- Write texts for publications, didactic panels, grant proposals, and reports.
- Represent the gallery at exhibition openings, talks, and public events.
- Provide administrative support to the Manager of Exhibitions, including managing loan requests and artist contracts.
What you'll need#
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Art, History, or Communications.
- At least 1 year of related professional experience.
- Knowledge of fine art processes, art history, and current curatorial practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with the Atlantic region and its arts communities.
- Ability to work with methods and materials used in exhibition design and administration.
