About the role#
The Department of Public Works is seeking two summer students to support provincial infrastructure projects in Chezzetcook. This role provides practical experience in highway and bridge construction through training and mentorship from technical professionals. The position is full-time for the summer of 2026, with work performed primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
What you'll do#
- Assist with highway construction and maintenance duties.
- Participate in traffic control, manual brush cutting, and litter pickup.
- Perform road surface maintenance, including installing culverts and guardrails.
- Collaborate with staff on special projects and general building or yard maintenance.
- Complete safety training courses, such as Standard First Aid, WHMIS, and Traffic Control Person certifications.
What you'll need#
- Must be a high school student at least 16 years of age and returning to school in the fall.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license is preferred, and an acceptable driver abstract is required prior to employment.
- Demonstrated interest in highway and bridge construction.
- Ability to work as a team player, follow safe work practices, and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to professional service.
- Familiarity with construction sites or exposure to heavy equipment is considered an asset.

- Compensation: $18.58 per hour.
