    About the role#

    The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking two students for the position of Student Labourer in Chezzetcook. This summer role provides practical experience in highway and bridge construction and maintenance through training and mentorship from technical professionals. You will contribute to the provincial road network while developing your skills in a hands-on environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with a variety of highway construction and maintenance tasks.
    • Perform manual labor, including brush cutting, litter pickup, and painting lines and trucks.
    • Carry out road surface maintenance and the installation of culverts and guardrails.
    • Participate in traffic control duties.
    • Collaborate with staff on special projects and assist with general building and yard maintenance.
    • Complete safety training, such as Standard First Aid, WHMIS, Traffic Control, and Bush Saw safety.

    What you'll need#

    • Must be a high school student at least 16 years of age and returning to school in the fall.
    • A keen interest in highway and bridge construction and maintenance.
    • Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety.
    • Ability to work effectively as a team player.
    • A valid Class 5 driver's license is preferred; an acceptable driver abstract is required before employment begins.
    • Familiarity with construction sites and exposure to heavy equipment are considered assets.

    • Location: Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia.
    • Term: Summer 2026 (anticipated end date of August 28, 2026).
    • Work Modality: On-site, primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Employment Type: Full-time, paid position.
