The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking students for the Future Opportunities Stream. This program creates an inventory of students to be matched with various roles across departments including Natural Resources, Energy, Climate, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. These temporary, paid positions are designed to provide meaningful, hands-on work experience, mentorship, and career exploration within the public sector.
What you'll do#
Responsibilities vary by placement and may include:
- Working outdoors to support provincial parks, beaches, and campgrounds, including facility maintenance and visitor engagement.
- Conducting data collection, mensuration, surveys, and audits in forestry, wildlife, and biodiversity.
- Assisting with data analysis, information management, reporting, and program delivery.
- Supporting forestry education programs and engaging the public at events.
- Gaining hands-on experience in clean energy projects, climate change initiatives, and agricultural monitoring.
- Performing physical tasks such as lifting or carrying equipment, and navigating varied or rugged terrain.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a high school or related post-secondary program, with plans to return to studies in the next academic term.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and follow instructions.
- A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- A genuine interest in forestry, parks, or outdoor work.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including working outdoors in various weather conditions and lifting up to 55 lbs for certain roles.
Location & details#
- Location: Various locations across Nova Scotia.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Employment Type: Full-time, paid student positions.
- Note: Some roles may require work in remote locations or overnight field assignments. Field-based roles require employees to provide their own approved safety boots.
