About the role#
This summer student position offers practical experience in highway construction and maintenance within the Department of Public Works. You will work under the mentorship of technical professionals to support the management of provincial road networks. This role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions.
What you'll do#
- Assist with highway construction and maintenance tasks.
- Perform manual brush cutting and general building and yard maintenance.
- Paint lines and trucks.
- Conduct litter pickup.
- Participate in safety training, including Standard First Aid, WHMIS, Traffic Control, and Bush Saw safety.
What you'll need#
- Must be a high school student at least 16 years of age, returning to school in the fall.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Strong commitment to safety and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license is preferred; an acceptable driver abstract is required prior to employment.
- Interest in highway and bridge construction is highly valued.
- Familiarity with construction sites and exposure to heavy equipment are considered assets.
