About the role#
General Motors is seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns for the Summer 2027 term. This is a hands-on, full-time position based in a plant environment. You will work on mechanical programs, support operations improvements, and assist with new or replacement equipment projects.
What you'll do#
- Perform mechanical root cause analysis and solve technical problems.
- Analyze products, processes, and technology to determine the best methods of manufacture.
- Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommend process improvements.
- Coordinate machinery upgrade projects.
- Provide technical support and direction to support personnel and skilled trades.
- Assist maintenance teams with the operation and troubleshooting of specialized equipment.
What you'll need#
- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Expected graduation date between August 2027 and June 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Willingness to work in a plant environment, which may include loud conditions and non-climate controlled spaces.
- Ability to stand for long periods, wear required personal protective equipment, and perform physical tasks like bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and climbing.

- This internship is fully on-site. You will be assigned to one of our manufacturing facilities.
