About the role#
The Platform Systems Engineering and Integration directorate acts as the system and spatial integrator for complex submarine designs. You will work across disciplines to ensure that individual components and subsystems function as a unified system. This role supports current and future submarine design programs, including the Columbia and Virginia classes, by applying systems engineering principles to platform development, integration, and verification.
What you'll do#
- Develop and verify requirements.
- Resolve technical integration challenges.
- Create test programs and concepts of operations.
- Manage interfaces and utilize model based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Coordinate multi-discipline spatial arrangements and integration.
- Participate in Electronic Visualization System (EVS) meetings to review 3-D model arrangements.
- Interact with NAVSEA customers to coordinate 3-D model approvals.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Masters degree program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean, Nuclear, Electrical, Computer, Software, or Systems Engineering.
- Completion of at least your Freshman year before the internship starts.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a background check and medically supervised drug screen.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May and September 2027.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
- Placements occur in Groton, CT, New London, CT, North Kingstown, RI, Newport, RI, or North Stonington, CT.
- You are responsible for your own housing and transportation.
