About the role#
This internship provides students with exposure to the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy business. Interns work onsite with customers to support legacy fleet reactors, assisting outage teams to ensure reactors operate safely and efficiently. The position begins in January 2027 and involves a mix of technical training, domestic travel to nuclear refueling outages, and project work at the Wilmington, North Carolina site.
What you'll do#
- Perform maintenance and inspection activities on Boiling Water Reactors.
- Work as part of high-performance teams to complete safe and error-free work.
- Assist outage teams in servicing customer reactors to return them to service.
- Attend entry-level technical training and travel to various domestic plant sites.
- Demonstrate an analytical approach to problem-solving and technical tasks.
- Utilize basic hand tools and read equipment manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program with a primary major in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, Environmental Engineering, or Nursing.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).
- Prior internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, industrial, or field engineering environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical problems clearly.
- Possession of a valid US driver's license.
- Ability to travel up to 70% of the time to domestic plant sites.
- Ability to pass physical requirements, including a respirator fit test, and obtain unescorted access to commercial nuclear power plants.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends, when required for project delivery.
- Ability to work in radiation-controlled or radioactively contaminated areas.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual.
