About the role#
GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy is seeking engineering and science students for a 12-month co-op program starting in May 2027. This position supports the licensing of the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor in Canada. You will join our licensing team to gain exposure to the nuclear business while working alongside experienced engineers and technical managers.
What you'll do#
- Receive technical training, mentorship, and coaching.
- Grow your technical expertise and expand your skills.
- Complete assignments in the power generation industry, specifically focusing on codes and standards, regulatory requirements, and systems and component design and analysis.
- Prepare reports, databases, and presentations.
- Solve problems and implement innovative initiatives.
- Collaborate with the team and other organizations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time STEM undergraduate or graduate program.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Availability for a 12-month co-op program starting Summer 2027.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, as well as SharePoint or SmartSheet.
- Experience with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Regulatory Documents or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards is preferred.
- Project management experience and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
- A desire to advance nuclear power generation.
- Knowledge of MATLAB or AutoCAD is an asset.
- Previous nuclear industry co-op or internship experience is an asset.

- Location: Markham, Ontario.

- Duration: 12-month co-op starting Summer 2027.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $26 to $29 CAD hourly.
- Eligibility: You must have legal authorization to work in Canada. This role requires access to information subject to U.S. Export Control Laws, which may require specific authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy depending on citizenship.
